The Fool: A Play in Four Acts

The Fool: A Play in Four Acts, written by Channing Pollock and first published in 1922, explores the moral dilemmas and social responsibilities faced by its protagonist, Daniel Gilchrist, an assistant rector. Set against the backdrop of post-World War I America, the play delves into themes of class struggle, labor strikes, and the expectations of an affluent congregation during Christmas Eve in 1918. Pollock's work is notable for its critical examination of societal issues and the ethical challenges of Christian life, reflecting the complexities of American social dynamics in the early 20th century.
