The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night — Volume 10 (of 10)
The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night — Volume 10 (of 10)
Translated by Richard Francis, Sir Burton
The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night — Volume 10 is part of a classic collection of Arabian folktales, likely composed in the late 19th century. This volume features the story of Ma’aruf, a cobbler in Cairo, who faces challenges from his demanding wife, Fatimah, and encounters an Ifrit that offers him a chance to escape his troubles. The tales, originally told by Shahrazad to delay her execution, blend humor, moral lessons, and supernatural elements, showcasing the rich tapestry of medieval Islamic life. This edition reproduces the 1932 Modern Library version, selected by Bennett A. Cerf from Sir Richard F. Burton's renowned translation.
