The Black Eagle Mystery

When prominent lawyer Hollings Harland shoots himself in his office after a heated confrontation with ruthless financier Johnston Barker, the suicide sends shockwaves through San Francisco's financial world. Barker vanishes immediately, leaving behind a web of secrets, ruined livelihoods, and destroyed reputations. Enter Molly Morgenthau Babbitts, a former telephone girl turned sharp-witted detective, and her journalist husband Babbitts, who together begin pulling at the threads of this convenient suicide. As they dig deeper, they discover the case reaches far beyond one man's death into the dark intersections of power, passion, and cold-blooded greed. Geraldine Bonner crafts a propulsive early 20th-century mystery where the line between justice and complicity blurs, and where one woman refuses to let the powerful get away with murder, even when the body count rises and the truth threatens to destroy everyone in its path.
