Stingaree

In the sun-baked Australian bush, Stingaree rides. He's a bushranger with a conscience, a thief who steals only from those who deserve it, a man waging one-man war against corrupt authority and indifferent wealth. When he encounters Hilda Bouverie, a talented singer trapped by circumstance and class, their lives entwine in ways neither could have predicted. She's forbidden from performing at a charity concert by the very society that employs her as a servant. He's forbidden from any life but the outlaw's. Yet in the shadow of the bush, where the law is just another thing to be evaded, something dangerous blooms between them. Hornung, creator of the beloved Raffles, crafts a darker, wilder cousin to his gentleman thief. Stingaree is ruthless where Raffles is charming, dangerous where his predecessor is civilized. Yet beneath the swashbuckling and the gunfire lies something tender: a romance between two people who refuse to accept the stations into which the world has placed them. This is adventure fiction with teeth, and a love story that dares to ask whether some laws deserve breaking.
