Round Anvil Rock: A Romance

On the Kentucky frontier in the early 1800s, two young people must find their place in a world that demands they become someone they never imagined. David is a dreamer, more at home listening to the river's voice and the mournful horn of passing boatmen than in the rough company of settlers. Ruth is his opposite: bright, daring, always pushing him toward life. Together they orbit each other, their connection deepening as they wrestle with questions of identity, belonging, and what they owe to the mysterious Philip Alston, whose beneficence shapes their fates. The wilderness stretches vast and indifferent around them, full of both beauty and danger, mirroring the interior wilds of two hearts learning to risk vulnerability. This is a quiet romance, not of grand gestures but of stolen glances, whispered confidences, and the tender courage it takes to choose another person when the whole frontier feels uncertain. For readers who crave historical fiction that moves at the pace of real life, whose love stories unfold like slow rivers rather than sudden storms.
