Published in 1909, 'Queen Zixi of Ix' by L. Frank Baum follows Fairy Queen Lulea and her companions as they create a magical cloak that grants its wearer a single wish. The cloak is given to the sister of Noland's new king, who is struggling with his new responsibilities. The witch-queen of Ix plots to steal the cloak to enhance her own power, leading to a conflict that tests the new royals. Although not part of the Oz canon, Baum regarded this novel as his best work and it was adapted into a silent film in 1914.
