Medusa's Coil

A traveler seeking shelter from a storm arrives at the decaying plantation of Antoine de Russy in southern Missouri. The old man, hollow with grief, tells his story: his son Denis brought home a beautiful wife from Paris, a woman named Marceline with magnificent hair. What begins as a tale of forbidden love curdles into something ancient and terrible. Marceline's locks conceal a horror older than civilization, a connection to the Medusa myth and forces that should have remained buried. When Denis uncovers the truth about his wife, the revelation unleashes a catastrophe of madness and death. Written by Zealia Bishop and heavily revised by H.P. Lovecraft, the story bridges Greek mythology and American Gothic. The coil of hair becomes both literal nightmare and metaphor for secrets kept, sins inherited, and ancestral crimes that echo across generations. Bishop understands desire and vanity in a way Lovecraft never quite mastered, while his fingerprints are visible on every page of cosmic dread. This is inheritance as curse, beauty as beast, and the past refusing to stay dead.
