Joan of Arc of the North Woods
In the vast pine forests of the Tomah country, independent loggers are dying, one buyout at a time. Comas Consolidated Paper Company is swallowing the North Woods whole, sending their smooth-talking field director Rufus Craig to charm and coerce the small operators off their land. But they have not counted on Ward Latisan. A timber cruiser who reads the forest like scripture, Ward is the keeper of his family's legacy, and he knows exactly what it means to hold onto land his ancestors fought for. When Craig comes calling with contracts and promises, Ward sees not a business deal but the death of everything he loves. Their collision becomes a test of will: corporate money and pressure against one man's stubborn refusal to sell. This is a story about what happens when Goliath comes to town and David decides to stand his ground. It is also a loving portrait of a world that no longer exists, the rough honor of the timber country, the communities built on independent work, and the price of progress when it comes at the cost of everything small and stubborn.
