Jeannot Et Colin

Jeannot et Colin, published in 1764 by Voltaire, is a philosophical novella set during the Age of Enlightenment. It tells the story of two childhood friends from different social backgrounds: Jeannot, the son of a wealthy merchant, and Colin, the son of a humble farmer. As Jeannot's family rises in wealth, he becomes vain and superficial, leading to his downfall, while Colin remains grounded and successful through hard work and genuine relationships. The tale critiques societal values and emphasizes that true happiness comes from friendship and humility rather than wealth and status.
