In Brief Authority
In Brief Authority is a satirical comedy written by F. Anstey in 1915, set in the whimsical land of Maerchenland. The story follows a nouveau riche British family and their nanny who are mistakenly crowned as royalty, leading to humorous attempts to impose British customs in a realm filled with fairy tale elements like gnomes, giants, and magic. As the family introduces capitalism and golf, complications arise when the rightful ruler is revealed. The narrative also reflects the societal tensions of World War I through its preface and epilogue.
