Hidden Water

The desert has no mercy, and neither do the men who fight over it. In a dusty Arizona town sheltering from a monster storm, Rufus Hardy walks into the Hotel Bender and refuses everything the West offers him: the drink, the gun, the easy violence. He's come to work as a sheep expert for the Dos S Ranch, and that makes him a target. The cattlemen see sheep as destruction. The sheepmen see cattle as thieves. And the water, hidden water, the precious thing everyone is dying for, belongs to whoever's left standing when the arroyos run dry. Hardy stands apart, a man who won't draw a gun but might be the only one stubborn enough to find a way through. As the storm breaks and range war looms, Coolidge maps the fault lines of a frontier where change is coming whether anyone wants it or not. This is the Old West stripped of mythology: brutal, pragmatic, and haunted by the question of what we're willing to kill for.
