Hero and Leander
Hero and Leander is a narrative poem written by Christopher Marlowe in the late 16th century, which explores the tragic love story of Hero and Leander, based on Ovid's myth. The poem, left unfinished due to Marlowe's untimely death, gained notoriety for its homoerotic themes and the scandal surrounding Marlowe's life. George Chapman later completed the poem, adding his own literary flair, and is recognized for his skill in both allegory and epigram. This work is notable for its influence on English poetry and drama during a time when the plague had forced theaters to close.
