Heedless Hetty

Hetty is reckless, forgetful, and prone to disastrous blunders. She loses letters, breaks dishes, and wanders into situations with absolutely no sense of consequence. But beneath her heedless exterior lies a heart so generous it might be her undoing. When she leaves home to work as a maid for the Eyre family, her task is simple: assist in caring for the delicate young Flora, whose fragile health depends on constant, careful attention. The problem is that Hetty cannot be careful. She forgets important instructions, misplaces essential medicines, and yet somehow keeps stumbling into exactly the right moment to offer comfort when Flora needs it most. Mrs. Eyre grows exasperated. Hetty's mother worries. But little Flora, who understands something of Hetty's peculiar magic, defends her. This is a story about whether a person can change their fundamental nature - and whether they should have to. It's also about what it means to truly care for someone, and whether the people who love imperfectly are less worthy than those who love well. A gentle, period-appropriate tale of growth, compassion, and the possibility of redemption through stubborn, reckless devotion.
