Georgian Poetry 1916-1917

These are the voices of a generation being consumed by war. Published in 1916-1917, this anthology gathers poems from eighteen young poets who wrote while Europe burned, their verses ranging from battlefield horror to tender meditations on love and the English countryside they were fighting to preserve. The collection showcases the Georgian style at its most vital: accessible, formally skilled, and unapologetically emotional. Siegfried Sassoon brings raw protest against the machinery of war. W.J. Turner contributes his characteristic atmospheric intensity. Together, they represent a literary generation caught between the Romantics and the modernists, forging something neither ancient nor experimental but urgently, beautifully their own. This is poetry written in the trenches and from the home front, capturing a civilization in crisis and the human heart's attempt to make sense of it all. For readers who believe poetry matters most when the world is falling apart.
