France, Spain and the Rif, Part 2

France, Spain and the Rif, Part 2 is a historical account by Walter Burton Harris, written during the Rif War (1921-1926), which chronicles Spain's disastrous attempt to assert control over North Africa. The conflict resulted in over forty thousand Spanish casualties and significant political upheaval, including the dethronement of Alfonso XIII and the rise of Franco. Harris, a British correspondent for The Times with extensive knowledge of Morocco, provides a firsthand perspective on the brutalities of the war, including the use of chemical weapons and the broader implications for colonialism in the region.
