Forty-Five Guardsmen
Published in the 1860s, 'Forty-Five Guardsmen' is the sequel to Alexandre Dumas' 'Chicot the Jester' and the final installment of the 'Valois Romances.' Set six years after the 'Duel of the Mignons,' the novel explores the formation of the Forty-Five Guardsmen, who would later become the Musketeers. The story follows Chicot the Jester as he remains loyal to the regency of King Henry III, while also continuing the narrative of Diana, a key character from the previous book. This work concludes Dumas' historical fiction on the War of the Three Henries.
