Fortunes of Glencore
Published in 1857, 'Fortunes of Glencore' by Charles James Lever follows Viscount Glencore, who, after being abandoned by his wife, seeks revenge by declaring his son illegitimate, thus stripping him of his birthright. As the boy flees from his father's intentions, he and his companion Billy embark on a journey abroad for education and anonymity, but their plans are thwarted. The novel explores themes of family, legitimacy, and the consequences of revenge.
