Dorothy Page

Dorothy Page has spent four years at a Northern college, and now she's returning to the red clay roads of Kentucky as a young woman with a diploma and questions she never learned to ask at home. Her neighbor Sterling finds her captivating, but Dorothy isn't interested in the simple life everyone expects. A trip to Chicago ignites something unexpected: a spiritual awakening that sends her searching for meaning beyond the church she grew up in. What follows is a quiet, searching novel about a woman who won't simply inherit her faith, she wants to claim it for herself. Through conversations with Sterling and her family, Hatcher explores what it means to truly choose belief, not just accept the denomination you were born into. The Baptists and the Presbyterians disagree about baptism, about conversion, about what it means to belong. But Dorothy's real question is simpler and harder: What does she actually believe? For readers who loved the internal landscapes of Willa Cather or the religious searching of Flannery O'Connor.
