Cupid's Middleman

Cupid's Middleman

Cupid's Middleman

Edward B. Lent

American Literature, Humour, Novels, Romance

Two bachelors share a New York apartment, and one of them has decided that helping his friend find love is his sacred duty. Benjamin Hopkins takes his role as Cupid's middleman seriously, which is fortunate, because his track record is spectacularly poor. His current project: convincing Gabrielle Tescheron's father that the age gap between her and Jim Hosley is no obstacle. What follows is a merry parade of schemes, misunderstandings, and witty banter as Benjamin attempts to bend the laws of romance to his friend's favor. Set in 1906 New York, the novel offers sharp social commentary on class, marriage, and the meddling ways of friends who know best. The dialogue crackles with period wit, and the situation escalates with the kind of delightful chaos only an amateur matchmaker can inspire. For readers who enjoy comedies of manners, for those who believe love is worth the trouble, and for anyone who has ever tried to play romantic architect for someone else.
