Cape Cod Folks

A young woman leaves her comfortable life behind to become a teacher in Wallencamp, a remote fishing village on Cape Cod where the sea shapes every aspect of existence. The novel opens with Aunt Sibylla's fierce warning about the precariousness of coastal life, establishing a tone of quiet urgency that permeates the community. As the protagonist navigates her first night among peculiar neighbors and the warmth of the Keeler family, she begins the slow work of finding her place in a world apart from everything she once knew. Greene renders the Cape Cod landscape with the precision of someone who understands its moods, its dangers, and its fierce community bonds. This is a novel about the collision between outsider and insider, about a woman who seeks to define herself through work rather than circumstance, and about the small dramas of rural life where every conversation carries weight. The local color feels authentic rather than quaint, and the humor leavens the pathos without diminishing it. For readers who enjoy regional fiction that treats its setting as a living character, or who appreciate stories of self-discovery in unlikely places.
