Bob the Castaway; Or, the Wreck of the Eagle
1909
Bob Henderson is the kind of boy who makes mothers sigh and storekeepers reach for the nearest broom. A relentless schemer of pranks and mischief, he's earned a reputation in his village that precedes him everywhere, usually in the form of someone yelling about the latest catastrophe bearing his name. When his latest caper humiliates the entire family at the village minister's donation supper, his mother makes a decision that will change everything: Bob is going to sea. Tasked to Captain Spark, his seafaring uncle, the incorrigible boy boards the schooner Eagle with more swagger than sense. But the ocean has little patience for mischief, and soon Bob finds himself tested in ways his terrestrial troubles never prepared him for. The wreck of the Eagle looms ahead, promising shipwreck, survival, and something far more valuable than any lesson his mother could have devised, a genuine encounter with who he might become.
