Big Stupe
A 1950s sci-fi comedy that flips the script on the 'civilized Earthman conquers the natives' trope. Psychologist Bruckner arrives on a desert planet with his crew, confident he knows how to handle the local tribes while hunting for valuable minerals. He's about to learn that the natives have been watching him the entire time. When a drunken crewman disrupts a sacred celebration, tensions flare, but it's the bumbling, ridiculous creature called Big Stupe who steals every scene and eventually reveals something unexpected about how the locals see their 'advanced' visitors. De Vet writes with sharp wit, letting the comedy do the heavy lifting while quietly dismantling the arrogance of colonial mindsets. The story明白 holds up remarkably well as a quick, smart read that knows exactly what it is: a gleeful poke at anyone who thinks they're the smartest person in the room.
