An Episode in the Doings of the Dualized
1898
In this forgotten Victorian gem, a young woman named Ethelbert Daksha, raised in a family that prizes art and intellect above wealth, encounters Reginald Grove, a man haunted by his past and shackled by social expectations. As their connection deepens, the novel explores the fracturing and reconstruction of identity itself. The "dualized" aren't merely characters but mirrors reflecting the Victorian era's anxiety about divided selves, the tension between public masks and private truths. Ethelbert's contemplative nature becomes both her gift and burden as she navigates a world demanding she choose between authenticity and acceptance. What unfolds is a quiet meditation on redemption: can those broken by society's judgments rebuild themselves?
