A Lame Dog's Diary

An invalid confined to his sofa becomes the unlikely chronicler of village life in this quietly brilliant Edwardian comedy. From his stationary vantage point, the lame dog at the center of A Lame Dog's Diary watches Stowel unfold before him like a stage, where the arrival of the Miss Traceys in their new home sends ripples of speculation through the close-knit community. Gossip becomes currency. Rumors bloom and wither. And our narrator, pen in hand, records it all with a wry, observant eye that transforms ordinary village chatter into sharp social commentary. Macnaughtan understood something essential: the view from the margins offers perfect clarity. What could be轻浮的闲言碎语 becomes a meditation on how we construct each other's lives, how proximity breeds both intimacy and judgment. The novel hums with gentle humor and the quiet dignity of a man who has turned limitation into perspective.
