A Castle in Spain: A Novel

A train station in Madrid, 1878. Ashby, an Englishman with more passion than propriety, waits for the woman he intends to claim as his own. But Katie Westlotorn has caught the eye of Captain Lopez, a Spanish officer whose jealousy burns as hot as Ashby's determination. What begins as a romantic pursuit quickly spirals into something far more dangerous: a journey through a Spain torn by political upheaval, where rivalries turn lethal and love becomes a battlefield. James De Mille crafts a delicious triangle of desire, pitting an impetuous foreigner against a scorned local nobleman, with Katie's heart and life hanging in the balance. The novel pulses with the sensory richness of 19th century Spain, its train stations teeming with travelers, its countryside haunted by unrest. For readers who crave Victorian romance with teeth, who want their love stories complicated by real danger and genuine stakes, this is a forgotten gem that delivers adventure, passion, and the particular anguish of wanting what you cannot have.
