Hudson's Bay Company

The Hudson's Bay Company was a Canadian holding company whose principal businesses included department stores and commercial property. Founded by royal charter in 1670, it developed from a fur-trading enterprise that exercised extensive commercial and governmental authority in Rupert's Land into a major Canadian retailer. Its retail operations ceased in 2025, after which its remaining legal entity continued to wind up assets under a numbered-company name. HBC was headquartered at the Simpson Tower in Toronto.
