Ye of Little Faith

A philosophy professor proposes that reality is not fundamentally logical, and then his colleagues begin to vanish. Martin Grant's dangerous idea spreads through academic circles like a virus, each person who truly grasps it disappearing into... where? His son Fred must piece together what happened to his father and the others, hunting through the wreckage of ruined minds and empty offices for an answer that might itself be fatal to know. The vanishments escalate, the survivors grow paranoid, and Fred faces an impossible question: what happens to a person who accepts that the universe is fundamentally irrational? This is 1950s philosophical science fiction at its most unsettling, not alien invasions or atomic dread, but the horror of an idea so corrosive it might unmake anyone who truly believes it. Rog Phillips builds genuine dread through restraint, letting the implications of his premise unfold with the slow inevitability of a nightmare. The novel asks what happens when the tools we use to understand reality turn against the hand that wields them, and whether some questions are better left unasked.
