When the Cock Crows

A reclusive fisherman has made peace with his solitude on a tiny island off the Carolina coast. Captain Ichabod tends his lines, smokes his pipe, and keeps the company of Shrimp, an adopted rooster whose morning crow is the only clock he needs. The sea provides everything he requires: purpose, sustenance, and most importantly, distance from a past he's eager to forget. But when a ship founders in the teeth of an approaching storm and desperate distress signals cut through the evening air, Ichabod faces a choice that will shatter his carefully constructed isolation. What follows is both a desperate maritime rescue and a quiet spiritual reckoning, as he pulls a young woman from the churning waters and must confront the fears he's spent years fleeing. The prose carries the salt-roughened authenticity of the Carolina coast, while the story itself unfolds as a meditation on what we owe to others, and what it costs us to love again. This is adventure fiction with genuine emotional weight, a tale about the courage required to rejoin the human race.
