Under Boy Scout Colors

This is the story of becoming somebody. Set in the early days of the Boy Scout movement, it follows Dale Tompkins as he takes his first steps toward manhood by joining Wolf Patrol as a Tenderfoot. The wilderness of Hillsgrove becomes his classroom, where campfires teach lessons no textbook can, and the company of fellow scouts forges friendships that will last a lifetime. Each adventure - whether earning merit badges, lending aid to those in need, or simply learning to rely on others - builds not just skills but character. The book captures a moment when scouting represented something new and hopeful: a way to raise boys into citizens of substance and courage. What makes this endure is its earnestness and its faith in ordinary boys. Dale isn't exceptional - he's curious, sometimes awkward, always trying. That's the point. This is for readers who love the thrill of the open air, who understand that growing up is itself the greatest adventure, and who believe that the lessons learned in boyhood shape the adults we become.
