Tord of Hafsborough, and Other Ballads
Tord of Hafsborough, and Other Ballads is a collection of lyrical narratives by George Borrow, written in the early 20th century. The poems explore themes of heroism, love, and moral dilemmas, drawing heavily from Norse mythology and folklore. The titular ballad follows Tord's quest to retrieve his magical golden hammer from a greedy count, while other ballads in the collection, such as 'Thorvald' and 'Peter Colbiornsen,' similarly depict characters facing trials in pursuit of honor and adventure. Borrow's work aims to revive traditional tales through poetic storytelling.
