Tom Swift and His Sky Racer; Or, the Quickest Flight on Record
1911
1911. The age of flight is barely three years old, and seventeen-year-old inventor Tom Swift is determined to make his mark in the sky. When the Eagle Park Aviation Association announces a prize competition for the fastest aeroplane in America, Tom throws himself into building the Humming-Bird, a revolutionary aircraft designed to shatter every speed record. But he faces more than engineering challenges. Andy Foger, a local bully with a mysterious aircraft of his own, may have stolen Tom's plans. As Tom races against time to complete his creation, he must also guard against sabotage and outfly a rival whose intentions are decidedly foul. This is early aviation adventure at its most breathless: a snapshot of an era when the sky was still new, when American ingenuity could conquer anything, and when a young inventor's dreams hung on propellers and hope.
