The story revolves around Charley Russell, a senior in high school who is passionate about wireless technology and the great outdoors, as he navigates the challenges of transitioning into adulthood and responsibilities while maintaining his love for nature and the forests of Pennsylvania. At the start of the book, we meet Charley in his workshop, contemplating his future as he prepares for a fishing trip with his friend Lew Heinsling. They dream of building a boat but soon face the harsh realities of high lumber prices that crush their plans. Instead, they decide to camp in the mountains to enjoy nature and fish.
