The White Waterfall

Jack Verslun wakes on a Levuka wharf with nothing but the clothes on his back and a head full of questions. That night, he overhears something that will change his life: a Maori man and a Fijian chanting about a white waterfall and Black Fernando's hell. The riddle hooks into him like a fishhook, and when the chance comes to join Professor Herndon's expedition aboard the yacht The Waif, he takes it. The Pacific stretches before them all, full of hidden atolls and older secrets than any map has recorded. But as the voyage deepens into uncharted waters, the Professor's daughters Edith and Barbara bring their own tensions to the deck, and the expedition's mysterious partner Leith watches the horizon with calculations that have nothing to do with science. Somewhere ahead lies something that the islands have kept hidden. The question is whether any of them will live to find it. This is adventure fiction in the old mode: lush with tropical danger, suspicious of progress, and certain that the world still holds places where white men are strangers.
