The White Queen of Okoyong: A True Story of Adventure, Heroism and Faith

She was born in a cramped Aberdeen tenement, the daughter of an alcoholic father, and she chose to walk into the African interior armed with nothing but conviction. Mary Slessor abandoned the textile mills of Scotland to become one of the most remarkable women of the Victorian age: a missionary who refused to proselytize and instead became a protector. In the jungles of Okoyong, she confronted a society that murdered twins as omens of evil, and she simply... stopped them. With no formal training, no army, just an unshakeable will, she adopted the customs of the people she served, learned their language, and earned the title White Queen. W.P. Livingstone's biography captures not merely the adventure but the interior life of a woman who transformed hardship into radical compassion. This is a story of faith as action, of courage as daily practice, and of one woman who decided that the children of Africa were worth risking everything for.
