The Trail of the White Mule
1922
Casey Ryan was never cut out for traffic lights and ticket books. A desert man to his bones, he trades the open range for city life with his wife - and immediately begins chafing against every regulation, every speed limit, every reminder that he's supposed to act like a civilized human being. The opening traffic sequence shows him in full: weaving through streetcars, daring officers to arrest him, crumbling fines without glancing at them. The city is a cage. And Casey has never been good at cages. When the desert calls him back to prospect, he answers - because some men are simply born to wander. The adventure that follows is wild, funny, and occasionally dangerous, but at its heart this is a story about being true to your own wild nature, even when it costs you everything.
