The Tale of Pony Twinkleheels
The Tale of Pony Twinkleheels follows a spirited pony with a mind of his own and his young owner Johnnie Green on an early 20th-century farm. Twinkleheels is beloved but incorrigible, turning simple tasks like catching him in the pasture into epic pursuits. He races against the older, more dignified horse Ebenezer, causes mischief with neighboring farms, and experiences the proud milestone of getting his first pair of new horseshoes. The story captures something true about childhood on a farm: the particular frustration and love of a boy for a pony who won't behave, the small dramas of animal companions, and the gradual learning of responsibility. Arthur Scott Bailey writes with gentle humor about the everyday adventures of farm life, creating a portrait of friendship between child and animal that feels both specific and timeless.
