The Speedwell Boys and Their Ice Racer; Or, Lost in the Great Blizzard
1915
Winter 1915. The Speedwell brothers, Billy and Dan, spend their days delivering milk through frozen country roads, but their true passion is building an ice racer faster than anything their rivals can mount. When a massive blizzard bears down on their town, the boys encounter a strange silent boy known only as "Dummy", a refugee who speaks no English and carries secrets the brothers cannot yet fathom. What begins as a contest of speed across the frozen millpond becomes something darker: a rescue mission through howling winds, a confrontation with suspicious strangers, and a race against time to save lives before the storm closes in forever. Roy Rockwood, writing at the height of the Stratemeyer Syndicate's output, delivers a rip-roaring adventure that captures the fearless optimism of youth against nature's cruelest forces. The ice racer is more than a vehicle, it's a symbol of what these boys are willing to risk everything to achieve.
