The Smuggler of King's Cove; Or, The Old Chapel Mystery

The dying wish of a smuggler binds his son to a life of crime. On the storm-lashed coast of Headlandshire, Hugh Maitland lies on his deathbed, a king of the contraband trade who has run his final cargo. He makes two requests of his son Percy: care for your mother, and pilot the brig when called upon. But Percy has always loved the law better than the family business, and the promise catches in his throat. Ralph Tryon arrives to take command of the smuggling operation, and something is wrong. The new commander moves too confidently through the old house. Percy's mother trembles at the mention of his name. As the son struggles to honor his father's memory while staying clear of the gallows, he begins to unravel a secret that has festered in King's Cove for years, one that connects the chapel on the cliff to the contraband that bleeds across the border. A tale of dark waters, darker secrets, and the terrible weight of loyalty.
