The Sailor Hero: Or, The Frigate and the Lugger

The Napoleonic Wars surge to life in this gripping Victorian naval adventure, where the young midshipman William Thornton must chart a course through enemy vessels, political treachery, and a rival's bitter disdain. Set aboard the legendary HMS Victory under Vice-Admiral Lord Hood, the novel immerses readers in the brutal intimacy of shipboard life: the crushing hierarchy, the ferocious loyalty between officers, and the ever-present threat of French guns on the horizon. When Thornton is drawn into a desperate mission to rescue a noblewoman and her daughter from revolutionary forces, he finds himself caught between warring factions, each demanding different sacrifices. His uncertain heritage makes him a target for rivals like Howard Etherton, yet his courage and quick wit carve out a reputation that may be his only salvation. F.C. Armstrong writes with the practiced eye of a man who knows these waters, filling every page with the salt-spray reality of early nineteenth-century naval warfare, the tension of secret missions across the Channel, and the slow forging of a boy into a hero worthy of the name.
