The Rushton Boys at Rally Hall; Or, Great Days in School and Out

This is the book that defined American boyhood for generations of young readers. Set in an era when mischief was an art form and a boy's word was his bond, it follows the Rushton brothers, particularly the youngest, Teddy, through the daily adventures that shape growing up. Teddy is the kind of boy readers either recognize in themselves or remember fondly from their own childhoods: bright, bold, and absolutely incapable of walking past any opportunity for excitement without seizing it. When a simple backyard baseball game spirals into a runaway stagecoach crisis, Teddy finds himself facing the wrath of Uncle Aaron and the complicated logic of consequences. But beneath the humor and chaos lies something deeper: a story about how boys learn responsibility not through lectures, but through the natural outcomes of their choices. The warmth of family, the loyalty of friendship, and the particular magic of American small-town life in the early 1900s weave through every chapter. This is vintage children's adventure at its best: wholehearted, wholesome, and utterly unapologetic about the joy of watching young people discover who they're becoming.
