The Pines of Lory

A steamer bound for Boyd's Island deposits its passengers at the wrong shore, leaving Patrick Boyd, a man still carrying the physical and emotional wounds of Africa, stranded in wilderness with Elinor Marshall, an orphan of gentle disposition and unexpected strength. What begins as playful banter between strangers becomes a test of survival and self-discovery when the wilderness closes around them. Boyd's haunted past and Elinor's generous spirit forge an unlikely alliance as they navigate an island that refuses to be tamed. The initial lightness gives way to something rawer, more essential. Mitchell understands that being lost together reveals who people really are beneath the social performance. This is a romance that earns its heartbeats through proximity and peril, where two people stripped of civilization's comforts must decide what they owe to each other and to themselves.
