The Mercer Boys on a Treasure Hunt

Summer break at Woodcrest Military Institute should mean rest and baseball for brothers Don and Jim Mercer. Instead, a letter from their former history teacher arrives, shattering their plans for a lazy vacation. Professor Scott has uncovered clues to a legendary treasure from a vanished Spanish galleon, the Phantom Ship, and he needs brave young companions to join his expedition. The brothers and their friend Terry Mackson dive into a dangerous adventure, racing against a shadowy criminal named Sackett who's also hunting the same riches. Historical enigmas and physical peril await at every turn, transforming what should be a carefree summer into a fight for fortune and survival. This 1929 adventure captures something pure and irreplaceable: the reckless excitement of youth, the thrill of solving historical puzzles, and the bond of friendship tested by danger. For readers who grew up on Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, or who still believe the best adventures begin with a mysterious letter and end with buried treasure, this is a time capsule of golden-age storytelling.
