The Luckless Trapper; Or, The Haunted Hunter

The American frontier, circa 1850. Harry Winkle is a man with a score to settle and a wilderness that wants him dead. When a rifle shot echoes through the hills and Winkle watches a stranger die in a mountain stream, he steps into a world where danger wears many faces: rival trappers circling his traps, hostile forces moving through the trees, and something else, something that watches from the shadows with eyes that gleam in the dark. Dick Martin offers warning, but words are cheap in a land where the only law is survival. As Winkle pursues his vendetta deeper into the untamed country, he discovers that the frontier holds secrets older than the men who hunt through its valleys. The haunted hunter of the title is not merely a nickname, but a truth Winkle will confront in blood and terror. Eyster's forgotten gem is a pitch-dark wilderness novel where the real monsters might not be the ones with knives.
