The Heads of Apex
Two desperate men take a job that sounds too good to be true. Justus Miles and Rusty, soldiers of fortune with nothing left to lose, sign on with the enigmatic Solino for a voyage in a submarine to parts unknown. When disaster strands them in an underwater cavern, they discover a world no human was meant to see: the Apex, a hidden civilization where ruling beings called Heads sustain themselves on the blood of a subjugated people. The Heads are dying, their ancient power failing, and in the exiled rebel Spiro they find an ally willing to tear the Apex apart to reshape it.
