The Flying Chance

The story opens with Ensign Jack Rankin learning he's been grounded permanently - disqualified from aviation training due to failing eyesight. But military protocol means nothing when a US destroyer signals it's under submarine attack. Against orders, Rankin commandeers a flying-boat with fellow aviator Jim, launching into a desperate race across open water to reach his ship before it's too late.
