
The Dark Other is a horror novel by Stanley G. Weinbaum, first published in 1950. The story follows Nicholas Devine, a writer obsessed with pure horror, and his relationship with Patricia Lane, a young woman drawn to his complex personality. As their romance develops, Nick's dark side emerges, leading to psychological turmoil and violent tendencies, prompting intervention from psychologist Carl Horker. Originally written in the 1920s as The Mad Brain, the manuscript was edited for modern audiences by Forrest J Ackerman.
