The Country Beyond: A Romance of the Wilderness
1922
For three years, Corporal Cassidy of the Royal Northwest Mounted has trailed Jolly Roger McKay across a thousand miles of frozen Canadian wilderness. McKay is wanted for murder, a man who has slipped through the net again and again, living by his wits and his weapons in the vast empty north. But everything changes when McKay encounters Nada, a woman who has escaped her own地狱, a life under the thumb of a brutal man called Jed Hawkins in a rough mining settlement. Something in her compels him to stop running. He decides to return for her, to carry her away into the unmapped country beyond, where no lawman can follow. But Breault, the most feared man-hunter in the Mounties, has picked up their trail, and the wilderness that offers freedom also becomes a trap. This is old-school adventure at its finest: a tale of outlaws and pursuers, of a hard man softened by love, and of two people betting everything on one desperate chance at happiness in a land that kills the unprepared.
