The Cave Boy of the Age of Stone

In the shadow of towering cliffs and the vast prehistoric sky, a boy named Thorn comes of age in a world where survival is the only teacher. The Cave Boy of the Age of Stone drops readers into the daily drama of Stone Age family life: the crackling fire in a dim cave, the rhythmic thud of stone tools being crafted, the electric tension of a hunt where failure means hunger. Young Thorn and his brother Pineknot learn the hard lessons of their era from their father, Strongarm, a skilled hunter, and their mother, Burr, who imparts the domestic arts that keep a family alive. But this is no dry educational exercise. Thorn dives into cold streams to learn swimming, forges unexpected friendships with children from a distant shell mound community, and faces the ultimate test: the great mammoth hunt that will prove whether he has truly become a man. Written in 1907, the novel carries readers back to humanity's distant past with vivid scenes of tool-making, communal living, and the eternal struggle between human ingenuity and nature's ferocity. For young readers enchanted by the primal pull of earliest humanity.
