The Categories

Every classification system you've ever encountered, from biology to library catalogs to the tags on your phone, traces its lineage to this brief, ancient text. Written around 370 BCE, Aristotle's Categories represents one of the first attempts in Western thought to map the fundamental ways we can describe anything that exists.
