The Boy Scouts of the Flying Squadron
1914
It's November 1914, and the boys of the Wolf Patrol are heading into the winter woods for a camping trip that will change everything. Bud Morgan, a would-be inventor with a revolutionary aeroplane design, and his friend Hugh Hardin have big plans: test the flying machine, prove it works, and make a name for themselves in the process. But when they reach their campsite, they find another scout already there, and shortly after settling in, a mysterious explosion rocks their shelter. Now the boys are caught between the excitement of youthful adventure and the creeping danger of military secrets lurking in the wilderness around them. Strange figures have been seen near the camp, and the army is keeping something hidden in these snowy woods. As Bud's aeroplane tests become entangled with the growing mystery, the boys must decide how far they're willing to push their curiosity - and how much danger they're willing to face - to uncover the truth. This is early Boy Scout fiction at its most vital: a period document of pre-WWI optimism and invention, wrapped in a genuinely puzzling adventure.
